Team USA Olympic Outfits as Imagined by Ralph Lauren

I wasn’t sure that I was going to watch much of the 2010 Winter Olympics.  In fact I didn’t even know when they were supposed to start.  A little Un-American of me to be sure, but we’ve had so much snow here that I didn’t really want to watch snow-related events on TV!  Where’s my sunshine?  GIVE ME SOME SUN!!

Pfllllt and bah humbug.

Then I happened to be at a friends house last Friday when she turned on the TV and the opening ceremonies were on.  It was either the wine or I’d softened a little bit, but when I caught a glimpse of the outfits of Team USA I was immediately smitten with the knit caps and sleek puffy jackets.  I never thought I’d use the words sleek and puffy in the same sentence, but there you have it.

Only Ralph Lauren could imagine such modern outfits that are both utilitarian and fashionable at the same time.  And I love the fact that he was unabashedly traditional in the use of the knit caps.  I don’t like to wear hats.  They NEVER look good on my small head, but I found myself going online to buy one ’cause  I just had to have it!   How sad am I that they aren’t for sale.  Lucky athletes.

I figure I’ll find one someday on Ebay…either that or I’m going to have to learn how to figure skate.

I too LOVED the U.S. team outfits. Love the winter white turtle neck and fitted down jacket and the hats are very Scandanavian (I am from Norway.) Leave it to Ralph…
